The best way to have a bright future is to learn from the past. 2020 taught the fitness industry a lot, but the biggest thing it taught us is that we are resilient. This industry has been knocked down before, but it’s how to look towards the future that sets us apart from other markets and sectors of business.

As we turn towards 2021, it’s important to keep an eye on the market trends that are expected to blow up over the next twelve months. Keeping a pulse on these trends will allow you to not only prepare for the future, but will also give you a potential leg up on the competition if you are seemingly ahead of the curve!

Here’s what to look out for in 2021 as a gym owner.

People want to feel safe in their gyms, which means cleanliness is more important now than ever before.

Ensure that you have the proper cleaning processes in place and are able to show the effort you are putting into cleaning your gym. We also suggest upping the presence of cleaning products in your studio to give members peace of mind.

Outdoor and open air classes may not be going anywhere anytime soon.

Just as people want to make sure their gyms are clean, they also want to make sure that they are able to get in a great workout, while enjoying some fresh air. For those studios who are still unable to operate inside, this is the perfect opportunity to keep engagement high while maintaining profits.

People want to be able to check out of reality during their workouts and just get a good sweat in. 

2021 may be the year of self-care in new and different ways, such as setting aside a few minutes each day to just take care of yourself without worrying about work or any other tasks that cloud the mind. Give your members an experience that will allow them to come to your gym to destress and take time for themselves.

Options, options, options. 

As we mentioned above, outdoor and open air classes may be the next big thing in 2021, but do you know what else will be a hot commodity? Options. Members may feel more comfortable joining an online class rather than attending an in-person class. Either way, providing them with options will set you apart from any competitors who may only offer one way of delivering their products.

Community over competition.

2020 left a lot of people feeling lonely and isolated from people that they love. Gym-goers and members want to feel as though they are part of a community of like-minded individuals who are truly there for each other. Ensure your gym has an inclusive environment where people don’t judge each other, but rather support and push one another in the healthiest way possible.

These are just a few of the trends that we are expecting to see in 2021 for the fitness industry and community. Keeping yourself ahead of the curve will allow you to separate yourself from the others in the industry.
