Corporate life is usually characterized by working a 9-5 schedule (give or take), within a traditionally structured organization or company. Individuals who work traditional corporate jobs likely have their set schedule, a boss that he/she reports to and specific work tasks that fall under their umbrella as an employee. For some people, this is the dream and they thrive off of the structure laid out for them.
For others, however, corporate life may feel like a ‘ball and chain’ relationship, and one that they desperately want to get out of.
Here are four signs that corporate life may not be for you, and what you can do about it.
Performing the same tasks day in and day out may be good for some because they thrive on knowing what is happening before it happens. For others, however, it may feel suffocating. If you seek a position that always keeps you on your toes, perhaps corporate life isn’t for you. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with seeking out new opportunities that remain exciting and aren’t the same old thing day after day!
While corporate life absolutely has room for growth, it can be challenging to become a boss and climb up the corporate ladder at the speed in which you would like. If you are constantly struggling with someone telling you what to do (and when to do it), it may be time to find a more independent venture outside of the traditional workplace.
Some people are perfectly content with going to work from 9am-5pm Monday through Friday, clocking in and out of a job that simply serves as a means of income for them. While that can absolutely work for a lot of people, not everyone has that same feeling. If you are looking for something that fuels your soul and excites you when you are on and off the clock, consider finding a career that feels like a passion project!
