Is your job exhausting?
Do you clock out every day already dreading returning to work the next?
If you answered yes, you may be starting to think about quitting your job and finding something that is more suitable for you. Although that may be the right decision for you in the long run, it is one that will likely not be made lightly, as it is a huge life change. You may find yourself asking if you are doing the right thing or if you even have a legitimate reason to quit your job.
While we can’t make that decision for you, since situations differ and each person is unique in his or her own way, we can share a list of 5 reasons why people may choose to quit their jobs.
1. The environment is toxic and unhealthy.
This is a big one, because staying in a job that is toxic or unhealthy can actually do a lot of harm to your psyche. Examples of a toxic work environment include, but are not limited to, your boss or coworkers making you feel uncomfortable, a lack of work-life balance (leading to an unhealthy lack of boundaries), not getting the credit you deserve for projects you work hard on (or someone else is taking the credit), or a general sense of dread each time you ‘clock in.’ If you are experiencing any of these, among other feelings, you may need to reevaluate your employment at this current institution.
2. You feel bored doing the same tasks, day in and day out, without a challenge.
Some people are made to be challenged, and thrive off of the thrill of new tasks to tackle. If you are finding yourself stuck in a rut where your job no longer pushes you in a healthy and constructive way, you may need to find new opportunities that will challenge you the right amount you need to thrive!
3. You are looking for a new career, plain and simple.
Not everything has to have a big elaborate story behind it. Perhaps you are just ready to take on a new chapter of your life where you tackle a new career! Whether it’s a completely new role for you or simply working in a new industry, welcome that change and invite the change to be your motivator in this new season of life!
4. You want to be your own boss.
Plenty of people are simply fed up with working for other people. We totally get it! Seek out new opportunities that will allow you to become your own boss and will give you the opportunity to lead a team!
5. You want to do something that makes you feel like you aren’t working at all!
Have you heard that old saying, ‘Do what you love and you will never work a day in your life’? Well, some of that saying is true! If you are passionate about a certain field of work, you will have a lot more fun in your day-to-day life than working for a person, company, or in an industry that you don’t enjoy. We recommend taking the time to reflect upon what you do want to do for the rest of your life (or at least in the near future) and find a job that allows you to follow those passions!
Whether you are looking to make a career change in the next few months, or perhaps just starting to toy with the idea of quitting your job, one thing is for sure: you should feel confident in that decision before you execute! The best thing you can do is make sure you are hyperaware of the warning signs that may indicate that it is time to leave your current position and find a new one. This could be the biggest decision of your life, but it could also be the one that will change the course of your life forever.
