While there are people out there who are extremely self-motivated and happy to put in the work it takes to get as fit as possible, many of us could do with the help of a trainer or coach. Having someone alongside you as you train—who knows your fitness level, goals, and has experience programming workouts—can get you through a plateau or kickstart your fitness journey.

There are many similarities between an athlete-coach relationship and a franchisor-franchisee relationship. In both cases, healthy motivation and shared knowledge can be a huge benefit. Here are some more common points:

Real reason to turn up.

Knowing that your coach is waiting for you to arrive for a workout is the best motivation to get you out of bed and moving, even on the days you really don’t feel like it. It’s your trainer’s job to make sure that you meet your fitness goals, and it’s the same when it comes to a mutually invested and present franchisor.

At F45 Training, we try to be as present and active as possible with all of our franchisees. Our franchise system means that knowledge is easily shared and support easily given, which makes keeping motivated and inspired simple.

Proper goal setting.

In the age of instant gratification, people often get frustrated when they aren’t ready to take part in a triathlon or in cover model shape after a few weeks of training. A good trainer will ensure that his or her clients are given realistic timelines and goals to work towards, not only to prevent frustration but also to build a solid base for long-term health and injury prevention.

In the same way, the F45 Training approach is to set achievable and realistic goals for each individual franchisee. This helps to reduce the pressure of feeling the need for immediate success and the frustration of not achieving it. Most importantly, though, by drawing on experience and mapping out a set of considered goals for franchisees, we can help create a successful and resilient business.

A plan just for you.

Each of us is unique in terms of how we should train. Different levels of experience, specific goals, or an injury will change which exercises a fitness coach selects. Similarly, a franchisor should make sure that franchisees are given everything they need to make their individual business (or businesses) work.

Not only does the F45 system make access to brand assets and business support easy, but our global network means that we understand just how individual a franchisee’s needs can be and know what’s needed across a variety of markets and locations.

Work out smarter, not harder.

Many people think that fitness is just a matter of training harder, but by selecting the right exercises and using time efficiently, it's possible to get the most benefit from the least amount of exercise.

An experienced and successful franchisor will also have a good idea of what works and where franchisees should focus to see the biggest return for their businesses. The 'F45 way' is to create a streamlined plan to ensure that franchisees operate as efficiently as possible and have everything they need for individual success at their fingertips.

Push boundaries, but safely.

We can only really get fitter, faster or stronger when we push our current limits. Of course, this increases the risk of injury, but a trainer should be able to keep you progressing safely by knowing when to add more weight, push for another rep, or aim for a faster time.

Again, a franchisor should know how to encourage and enable a franchisee’s business to grow without placing too much pressure on them or overextending the business. By setting clear goals for franchisees and understanding what is realistic in term of performance, F45 is able to find the sweet spot between pushing boundaries and managing risk.

Know what success looks like.

By training with improper form, you’ll put yourself at a higher risk for injury and miss out on the full benefit of an exercise. A coach can help with this, both by demonstrating the correct form and giving you real-time feedback.

F45’s success means that we know proper franchising form when we see it. Regular feedback and check-ins ensure that franchisees are given input and help when they need it.

In it together.

Trainers have an emotional interest in seeing their clients succeed. An athlete’s success is a reflection of the coach being good at what he or she does as well. It’s the same at F45. All success is shared, and we celebrate every win as if it were our own—because winning is always better when there’s someone cheering you on.
