The world of work is changing. Rather than choosing a regular 9-to-5, more people are looking to become their own bosses and strike a better work-life balance. Being a franchisee can be a rewarding option for someone who would like to let his or her entrepreneurial spirit loose while having the support of a scalable model. But, how should you go about choosing the right franchise partner?
At F45 Training, we tend to think of think in terms of health and fitness. We couldn’t help noticing that finding the right franchise partner can be a lot like choosing the right training partner—here’s how.
You need someone who can push you.
A good training partner will help you achieve more than you could alone. Having someone who will hold you accountable for each session will ensure consistency; the right partner will know when you’re capable of doing a bit more or if you’re truly giving your all. A good franchisor should do the same.
The franchisor should know when there’s an opportunity for your business to do more and help you get there—or to understand when it’s time to consolidate and think about the long-term. No one wants a training partner who’s always waking you up at 4:30 AM to push for a personal best or someone who doesn’t care if you miss five sessions in a row.
You should have a common vision and goals.
If you’re training for an ultra-marathon, it wouldn’t make sense for you to pick a competitive powerlifter for a training partner. Ideally, you want a partner whose goals align with yours and who understands the challenges you’ll face every day. At F45 Training, we’re big on shared visions and work hard to understand the goals and aspirations of all our franchisees. Just like with team training, any success is shared.
Complimentary skillsets.
You learn so much from the people with whom you train. Where you’re strong, someone else will be weak. By sharing insights into why we’re good at some things and not at others, we learn from each other and get better.
The ability to share knowledge and experience lies at the heart of the F45 system. The bigger we get, the more we have to share, and it’s through agile structures and open lines of communication from franchisor to franchisee that we’ll be able to collaborate.
The ability to motivate and inspire one another.
Training can be hard, and things don’t always go according to plan or turn out the way you hoped. These are the times you need your training partner to make a joke or share a tip he or she knows will help you break out of your plateau. While it’s important for franchisees to work within the F45 guidelines and make the most of what the brand has to offer, we actively look for franchisees who will challenge and inspire us in turn. After all, it’s the people you spend the most time with that end up defining you.
Work out together.
While you can’t “trial buy” a franchise, you can get into F45’s brick and mortar businesses to get an idea of what we offer and how our brand works. You’re not going to learn everything you need to know about a franchise in one meeting, but you will be able to get a sense of how the business runs and ask questions that will help you make up your mind.
A workout is also an opportunity for the franchisor to get to know you. Remember, the relationship works both ways. They’ll be checking to see if you’re a good fit from their side as well.
Mutual respect.
One of the most important aspects of deciding on a training partner is a sense of mutual respect and care for how the other person feels & approaches their training. Without knowing what’s going on in someone else’s life, you’ll never be able to understand how he or she feels before or during a workout.
While a normal business relationship is strictly business, the F45 Training model encourages interaction and a better understanding of the people who work on both sides of the franchise agreement. After all, when we realize that our work is mostly about people, we see the importance that every individual has across our network. We’d love to welcome you to our franchisee family!
